Ben Yalom, MFA
Ben Yalom (he/him) is a San Diego-based psychotherapist. He is deeply invested in helping individuals and couples work through the challenging issues that life throws at all of us. He believes it is possible for us all to pursue meaningful goals, in open partnership with the people we love (or will love), in ways that resonate with our deepest values. He is a long-time writing collaborator with his father, renowned psychiatrist Dr. Irvin D. Yalom, and their current book, Hour of the Heart, is forthcoming from Harper Collins.
As a therapist Ben works with a trauma-informed attachment lens, using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples. He appreciates the meaning-centered work of Existential Psychotherapy, and the value and ethics-based perspective of Narrative Therapy. He approaches therapy as a collaborative endeavor, created jointly with each client.
Ben holds degrees from Stanford University (BA in Political Science and Theater), and the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop (MFA in Creative Writing). He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy at the California School of Professional Psychology within Alliant University.
Prior to his doctoral studies in Marriage and Family Therapy, Ben was the visionary force behind foolsFURY theater, which helped transform San Francisco’s performing arts scene in the early 2000s.
