Dr. Marty Klein has been a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Certified Sex Therapist for over 40 years. He has focused his entire career toward a single set of goals: telling the truth about sexuality, helping clients feel sexually adequate & powerful, and supporting the healthy sexual & intimate expression and exploration of all people.
Marty has written seven books, acclaimed by everyone from USA Today and The California Therapist to Penn & Teller and the Playboy Advisor, and published in eleven languages.
A popular guest on the electronic media, Marty has been featured on National Public Radio, 20/20, Nightline, and The Daily Show. He’s a favorite on popular podcasts such as Dan Savage and Skeptics Guide to the Universe. Every year he is quoted in dozens of national publications such as The New York Times and The New Yorker.

A tireless speaker, Marty has given over 1,000 keynote speeches, training programs, and popular lectures to groups including the Miami Women’s Hospital, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, New York Law School, and the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists. A former instructor at Stanford University Medical School, he recently gave two Congressional briefings on evidence-based sex education.
Marty’s accomplishments are also recognized abroad: he has trained professionals in over thirty countries, including China, Turkey, India, Israel, Morocco, Greece, and Japan.
Marty has also been honored by the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex. His book America’s War On Sex was honored as Book of the Year by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, & Therapists.
As a clinician, Marty works each week with individuals and couples who have a variety of sexual and non-sexual difficulties–some 40,000 sessions since 1980. He also provides consultations to other therapists, and supervises interns. Marty has a profound understanding of the incredible diversity of human sexuality and intimacy, whether expressed through BDSM, polyamory, “kink,” or more traditional forms. That’s why he gets referrals from dozens of Bay Area urologists, gynecologists, endocrinologists, psychiatrists, and other physicians and therapists every year.
Marty lives in Northern California with his wife, cactus garden, and enormous collection of rock ‘n’ roll albums. He performs Baroque and Renaissance music in a quartet called Behinde The Tymes.
